Remember, FPVs aren’t only used for racing. There are other applications for FPVs, as well.

“Where the FAA’s interpretation stems from is actually Public Law 112-95 Section 336. We keep going back to that document. That’s the professional mandate that gave us the rules, not only for hobby operation, but it also gave us the additional instruction that the FAA can’t propagate any further rules against hobby operation. But, what they did in that Public Law 112-95 was that they identified what the term “model aircraft” meant.
According to the congressional definition, it lists three primary areas…number two is that “a model aircraft must be flown within the visual line of sight of the person operating the aircraft”.
