New Drone TFRs: Marietta/Dalton Friday and Palm Beach Through Sunday

The next wave of VIP temporary flight restrictions lands Friday through Sunday. After this week’s Anchorage, Las Vegas, Bullhead City and Montana windows, the FAA has published presidential TFRs over Marietta and Dalton, Georgia, on October 16, and over West Palm Beach, Florida, from October 16 into October 18.

Here’s what was on the FAA TFR list and in NBAA’s impact statements as of Wednesday morning. Times are local. They can change, so confirm the FDC number before you fly.

Marietta and Dalton, Georgia — Friday, October 16

FDC NOTAM 6/9367 sets two presidential rings under 14 CFR 91.141 for the Marietta/Dalton area:

  • Marietta-area inner core (10 NM): Two windows on Friday—[12:45] to 3:00 p.m. EDT, then again [3:45] to 6:30 p.m. EDT. NBAA lists Dobbins ARB (MGE), Cobb County International/McCollum Field (RYY) and Fulton County Executive/Charlie Brown (FTY) inside the core. Approaches or departures at nearby DeKalb-Peachtree (PDK) may also be disrupted.
  • Dalton Municipal (DNN) inner core (10 NM): [1:30] to 5:15 p.m. EDT Friday.
  • Outer rings: Matching 30 NM rings carry additional restrictions between the inner and outer boundaries during the same windows.

As with other 91.141 VIP TFRs, Section C typically lists unmanned aircraft among the operations that are not authorized inside the rings. A Part 107 LAANC approval does not punch a hole through a TFR.

West Palm Beach, Florida — October 16–18

Two back-to-back presidential TFRs cover the Palm Beach area:

  • FDC 6/9368: 5:30 p.m. EDT Friday, October 16, through 12:30 p.m. EDT Saturday, October 17.
  • FDC 6/9369: 4:30 p.m. EDT Saturday, October 17, through 12:30 p.m. EDT Sunday, October 18.

Each uses a 10 NM inner core and a 30 NM outer ring centered near President Donald J. Trump International Airport (DJT, formerly Palm Beach International/PBI). Palm Beach County Park (LNA) sits inside the core. NBAA notes 2 NM exclusion areas around Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) and Witham Field (SUA) so those airports can keep arrivals and departures moving—still no free pass for drones near the VIP rings.

The FAA list also shows a separate SECURITY TFR, FDC 6/9370, for Palm Beach from Friday through Sunday. That is the pattern we saw earlier this week in Anchorage, Las Vegas and Missoula: a second, often drone-focused ring that can start earlier or run later than the VIP window. Read 6/9370 in full for radius, altitude and any Special Governmental Interest (SGI) language before you assume the VIP hours are the only ones that matter.

What this means for drone pilots

  • Georgia and South Florida jobs this weekend: If your flight is anywhere near Marietta, Dalton, Atlanta’s northwest suburbs or Palm Beach County, pull the NOTAMs twice—once when you plan and again before takeoff.
  • Search by state, not just the city name. Filter the FAA TFR page for GA and FL so you catch both the VIP FDC numbers and the Palm Beach security NOTAM.
  • Don’t lean on LAANC or a prior authorization. A TFR overrides them. Commercial work inside a VIP or security ring generally needs an approved SGI waiver from the FAA System Operations Support Center, filed early through waivers.faa.gov.
  • Event TFRs are still active too. Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach and other UAS Public Gathering restrictions remain on the board this week—separate from the VIP stack.

Reading NOTAMs, converting times and recognizing restricted airspace are core Part 107 skills. Our Part 107 online course walks through TFRs the way you’ll see them on the exam and in the field.

The bottom line

Friday’s Georgia VIP windows and a multi-day Palm Beach stack—including a separate security TFR—are the new pieces after this week’s earlier travel. If you fly near any of them, check the FDC text, not just the colored rings on the map. When in doubt, keep the aircraft on the ground.
