Drone Deliveries Finally Set to Take Flight As Amazon Gets FAA’s Approval, DJI All Set to Launch the All-New DJI Ronin RS2, Drones for Predicting Hurrican Behavior, Drones for Accident Reconstruction, Part 107 Renewal During COVID

Our biggest story this week is about drone deliveries.

Archaic drone regulations have prevented drone deliveries from truly taking off in the United States. While countries like Africa have been quick to realize the benefits of this technology, drone deliveries in the US have not seen mass adoption till now.

However, this might change with this latest development.

Apparently, FAA has given Amazon’s drone delivery arm, Amazon Prime Air the go-ahead for making drone deliveries. Interestingly, Amazon shall be flying under Part 135 and not Part 107. Regular Drone U followers might recall our blog post where we had revealed how you can make drone deliveries under Part 107 as well.

So, do you think that drone deliveries will finally set flight in the United States? And, will this speed up the development of UTM infrastructure, an enabler for making drone deliveries in congested areas? Let us know.

DOI’s decision to ground their entire fleet of Chinese drones made it even more difficult to fight these wildfires that have destroyed many homes and left numerous families devastated. We have some exciting drone news lined up for you this week.

Our biggest story this week is about the all-new DJI Ronin RS2. Last week, our good friend and drone pilot, Osita LV shared some images on his Twitter account which suggest that a new DJI gimbal, the Ronin RS might be in the works. The DJI Ronin has a loyal following not just among aerial photographers but also among ground photogaphers. Now, the latest industry reports suggest that after the Ronin S and the compact Ronin SC, DJI is gearing up to launch the DJI RS2.

Our next story is equally exciting. And all credit to good old Osita for this story as well. As per these reports, along with the Ronin SC, DJI is also planning to come out with a FPV drone. It shall be interesting to see if DJI is able to offer a complete FPV package consisting of a FPV drone, FPV goggles, and FPV googgles for less than $1,000.

In yet more news, DJI’s Brendan Schulman engaged in some friendly banter with Skydio on Twitter. While Skydio is of the opinion that fully autonomous drones are set to become reality soon, current drone laws dicatate that a drone cannot be flown without a pilot. So, which side of the fence do you set on? Do you think that complex creative and technical jobs can be executed flawlessly without any human intervention?
