Today’s show is about hiring the right employee who can help you scale up your drone business.
On past ADU shows, we have discussed how you set up an LLC FOR your drone business. Our caller for today, Tom has a question about scaling up his drone business.
Tom is a busy drone pilot who is finding it incredibly difficult to devote time to tasks like marketing and customer service. Needless to say, neglecting these aspects of his business is seriously impacting Tom’s long-term prospects.
So, should Tom hire an employee and who can handle some of this workload? If yes, should he hire a full-time employee? Or, is it better to start with a part-time contractor? We explore the pros and cons of both these options. We also share how you can conduct a proper cost-benefit analysis which shall enable you to take correct and impactful business decisions. Listening to this show will particularly help those who are struggling to scale up their drone business.
Thanks for the excellent question, Tom. Fly Safe!

Today’s question is about the aeronautical knowledge and safety test. As a Part 107 pilot, do you need to clear this test if you intend to fly recreationally?
Our caller for today, Greg has come up with a great question today. As you may be aware, the FAA’s Reauthorization Act requires all hobby pilots to pass an Aeronautical Knowledge and Safety Test. Greg, a Part 107 pilot is wondering if he needs to clear this test so that he can fly recreationally as well.
A Part 107 certificate intends to equip drone pilots with the knowledge required to fly safely as per FAA’s rules and regulations. So, should Part 107 be required to clear another test meant to vet recreational pilots? And considering these stricter regulations for hobby pilots, is it easier to simply fly as a Part 107 pilot? Towards the end, we discuss some of the pitfalls of the proposed Remote ID rule. Tune in for some excellent insights. Thanks for the great question, Greg. Fly Safe!

[12:23] Will the FAA manage to enforce compliance if the Remote ID NPRM goes through?
[13:55] Discussing the need to raise a collective voice against the Remote ID NPRM
Our biggest story this week is about FAA’s Remote ID NPRM. All industry majors have raised a collective voice against this restrictive proposal which could seriously stunt the growth of the entire drone industry. In today’s show, Paul and Haye urge all members of the drone community to comment responsibly on this issue so that our efforts can have the desired impact on the outcome. Our Drone U Comment Guide can help you learn about the Remote ID NPRM and help you formulate your comment.
Our next story is about the Mavic 2 Enterprise. DJI has finally added Atti mode to the Mavic 2 Enterprise. Time and again, we have shared why a drone pilot needs to learn how to fly in Atti mode. Flying in Atti mode can help you grab buttery, smooth footage and also prevent a flyaway. With Atti mode now available on the Mavic 2 Enterprise, we speculate if DJI shall enable Atti mode on Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom as well.
Towards the end, we also talk a bit about drone deliveries. Plans are afoot to use drones for delivering marijuana in Seattle. And Google Wing is all set to conduct its test flights in the UK due to a more conducive regulatory environment. For all this and much, much more, tune in to our latest drone news show now!

Today’s question is about flying your drone over roads and vehicles.
Our caller for today, Greg has come up with a question that has considerable ambiguity surrounding it. Greg recently came across a prominent YouTuber who had posted footage that was captured while his drone was flying over roads and vehicles. As per Part 107 rules, is it illegal to fly your drone over roads and vehicles? And does FAA prohibit you from flying over moving vehicles as well as stationary vehicles?
We answer Greg’s question by explaining the FAA’s rules in great detail. Further, we debate if the FAA needs to loosen up its laws as far as flying drones over streets and drones in concerned. Towards the end, we talk a bit about the FAA’s remote ID NPRM and reveal how you can responsibly comment on this proposed rule.

Like many commercial pilots, Jake started working in real estate, and was quick to realize that clients were looking for a one-stop-shop that provided aerial + ground footage.
Next, Jake shares how he got his BIG BREAK when he was hired to capture footage for the MTV show, The Challenge. If you are struggling to market your drone services, this segment will be particularly interesting for you. Towards the end, we discuss FAA’s Remote ID NPRM, and how it will impact drone safety, raise privacy concerns, and have a telling effect on the drone industry as a whole.
