The proposed Remote ID regulations might surprise many in the TV, film and production industry. Remote ID will seriously change how most productions currently use drones, from canyon aerials in TV commercials to western towns in the desert. Remote ID may not have considered these high paying jobs.
These drone pilots face some of the steepest costs associated with equipment, thus they have a lot of skin in the game. Let’s just say, the proposed Remote ID might not be TV friendly.

Today’s call is about the all-new Phantom 4 Pro V2.0. How does this new DJI drone compare to the older Phantom?
Our caller for today, Ian flies a DJI Phantom 4 Pro. Ian is very happy with this reliable and versatile DJI drone. As we have discussed previously, the DJI Phantom 4 Pro is a great choice for folks who are looking to buy a drone that is great for videography as well as drone mapping. Ian’s question today is about the all-new DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0.
As you may be aware, DJI recently resumed production for the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0. While we are quite happy with this development, DJI’s decision to increase prices has understandably upset many potential buyers.
The new Phantom 4 Pro costs around $1,800. So, does this new DJI drone come with additional features that justify this higher pricing? Is it worth upgrading to the all-new DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0? We help Ian out by sharing some nuanced information. Thanks for the great question! Fly Safe!

With the rollout of the proposed remote ID rules, we have seen many hobbyists and commercial operators will be negatively affected. What about industry manufacturers?
How will industrial and enterprise jobs be affected? Most industrial jobs, as we learn, will not be able to fly drones.
Industrial jobs are typically in secure environments and cannot connect to the internet for security reasons, so how would those pilots comply with Remote ID? They wouldn’t. Remote ID is a drone jobbing killer, are you ready to rise and fight it?

Today’s question is about notifying people when shooting construction sites or crowded events. Are drone pilots legally required by the FAA to do so?
Our caller for today, Scott has come up with multiple interesting questions that have not been asked on ADU before. Scott, a drone pilot from North Carolina regularly flies the Phantom 4 Pro V2 for construction jobs. Does he need to notify the public before he sets flight? Also, a typical construction site is bustling with people and activity. So, should Scott go through the hassle of acquiring a Part 107 waiver since he will be flying over people?
Great question, Scott. To answer his question, we first reveal whether or not Scott is legally required to notify the public before flying his drone. While this may not be a legal requirement, will informing the public help conduct safer operations? We also discuss why using a parachute safety system to obtain a Part 107 waiver is not the best approach for a drone pilot. This show will particularly interest those who are regularly flying construction jobs. Thanks for the question, Scott. Fly Safe!

Today’s question is about the best quadcopter for windy conditions. Can you get rid of jello effect when you are flying a drone like the Phantom 4 Pro? Do you need to switch to a larger drone?
Our caller for today, Bob is facing some issues with his Phantom 4 Pro. Specifically, Bob is experiencing jello effect when he is flying his Phantom in high winds. Bob has already tried balancing his props but without any success. So, is it possible to capture smooth footage with the Phantom 4 Pro in such situations? Or, should Bob shift to a larger and more stable drone like the Inspire 2?
Great question, Bob. This is an issue that amateur pilots often grapple with. Drone pilots need to take into account varying wind speeds with an increase in elevation. However, can advanced flying skills make up for your lack of a larger drone? Is it advisable to change your flight settings when you are out flying in high winds? If you are regularly flying in areas with windy conditions, this show will surely interest you. Thanks for the great question, Bob. Fly Safe!

We start this show by sharing some important updates about the Remote ID NPRM. While the entire drone community is coming together to voice their protest against this restrictive proposal, on the other hand, companies like Airmap are supporting this proposal. Should you be using Airmap when they are putting their weight behind this NPRM which could murder the commercial and hobby drone industry?
In more Remote ID NPRM news, you will learn about the protest that FPV pilots have organized on February 29th at FAA HQ, Washington DC. As a responsible member of the drone community, we urge you to join them in this protest. You can also submit a well-thought-out comment by clicking here. The commenting deadline for the Remote ID NPRM is March 2, 2020.
Our next story is about the Coronavirus outbreak. First, we reveal how the Chinese government is using drones to combat this deadly virus. Then we go to discuss the far-reaching impact of this virus on drone manufacturers. Will this virus outbreak delay the launch of eagerly-awaited products like DJI Matrice 300 and Autel Evo 2?
Other topics discussed on this show are new certification for drone delivery providers, drone search and rescue, and implications of flying a drone in a “No-Drone Zone”. For all this and much, much more, tune in to our latest show now. Fly Safe!

Today’s questions is about the Phantom 4 Pro vs Mavic 2 Pro. Which drone is the better option for aerial videography? And, why?
Our caller for today, John has a question about the Phantom 4 Pro. He wishes to buy a new drone primarily for aerial videography, and is wondering how the Mavic 2 Pro with its Hasselblad sensor compares to the Phantom 4 Pro.
The Mavic 2 Pro may have replaced the Phantom 4 Pro as DJI’s flagship drone. But when it comes to aerial videography, we still recommend the DJI Phantom 4 Pro. In today’s show, listeners will learn how the Mavic 2 Pro’s inability to shoot in 4K60 can result in inferior drone footage.
Topics discussed include advantages of shooting at 60 fps, use of ND filters, and some expert post-production tips. Thanks for the great question, John. Fly Safe!

Today’s show is about FAA’s NPRM for Remote ID for drones. Jon McBride from RMUS joins us to discuss how this proposed rule will impact the drone industry as a whole.
We start this show with Jon sharing some interesting experiences from his 30-year long flying career. We discuss how public perceptions and drone laws have evolved over the years.
Next, Jon provides his take on the Remote Identification NPRM. At his company, RMUS, Jon has been building all kinds of custom drones and drone accessories. He shares how the passage of this proposed rule could make current equipment non-compliant. In our previous blog post, Vic has discussed all the additional costs that a drone pilot will have to bear if this NPRM were to go through.
Jon also discusses the potential impact on hobby flying at length. A long-time AMA member, Jon shares how the inability to fly nowhere else but in the FRIA’s will severely restrict the hobby pilot. We also discuss the rationale behind this proposed rule. Is there a need for network-based Remote ID when DJI drones are already equipped with a broadcast-based system? And, can Remote ID truly help keep nefarious activity in check?
We wrap up this show by discussing the impact of this proposed rule on drone pilot privacy and safety. If you are a responsible community member, tuning in to this show will surely give you an interesting perspective. Fly Safe!

Today’s question is about the Phantom 4 Pro V2. Is this the best choice for commercial drone pilots looking for a versatile and reliable solution?
Our caller, Brian currently flies a DJI Spark. Brian is looking to buy a drone that is suitable for photography, advanced videography as well as drone mapping. Now, with new drones like the Autel Evo 2 and DJI Mavic 3 expected to launch in 2020, should Brian delay his purchase? If not, which drone is the best option for Brian?
Great question. Regular ADU listeners might be aware that the Phantom 4 Pro is Paul’s favorite drone. In fact, in a recent blog post, Paul revealed why he still considers the Phantom 4 Pro V2 to be the “Honda Civic of Drones“. In today’s show, Paul first explains why the Phantom 4 Pro is the best choice for building a profitable drone mapping business. We share why the Phantom 4 Pro V2 is a better option for drone mappers compared to the Mavic Pro, Phantom 4 RTK and the Skydio 2.
Next, we talk a bit about drone videography. Paul shares his experience with shooting action sports in this segment of the show. Last but not the least, we reveal why the Phantom 4 Pro V2 remains one of the safest drones to fly. This show will be particularly interesting to commercial drone pilots shopping around for a new drone. Fly Safe!
