If you ask us at Drone U for the most fun drone you can buy right now, the answer is easy: the DJI Avata 2. It’s an immersive FPV drone that puts you in the cockpit. And beyond the fun, it can actually earn money.
Why the DJI Avata 2 Is the Most Fun Drone
With the Avata 2, you’re not watching a screen. Instead, you wear DJI Goggles 3 and see exactly what the drone sees. You dive, carve and glide like a bird.
Honestly, it’s a child’s dream come to life. Every kid who ever ran around with arms out pretending to fly gets to do it for real.
Leave Your Problems on the Ground
There’s a reason so many pilots call FPV therapeutic. When the goggles go on, the rest of the world goes quiet. You can’t scroll your phone or stress about email. You’re simply focused on the flight.
In many ways, that focus is the point. You leave your problems on the ground for a few minutes, then land feeling reset. We’ve written more about this in why FPV drones offer therapeutic flight.
The Ultimate Mountain FPV Flight

Now picture this: you’re kicked back in a camp chair in a quiet mountain valley, goggles on, and the Avata 2 is climbing the ridgeline in front of you. Seriously, it doesn’t get much better.
From there, you skim over wildflowers, follow a creek downstream and rise past pine trees toward the peaks. You’re not hiking those miles. Instead, you’re flying them like a bird, with the whole valley opening up below you.
That’s why we call it the most fun drone for adventures. The calm you feel in the goggles gets even bigger when the view is this wide. Just keep your flights within line of sight of your visual observer, and check that the area allows drones before you launch, since many national parks don’t.
Share the Flight: Friends Can Watch in Their Own Goggles

FPV is even better with friends. With DJI Goggles 3, you can turn on Broadcasting in the goggles’ Transmission menu. Then your friends open the Audience menu on their own Goggles 3, pick your channel and see your live view.
According to DJI’s Avata 2 FAQ, there’s no upper limit on how many Goggles 3 can tune in through Audience mode. However, DJI Support has said audience viewing doesn’t work across generations, so viewers need Goggles 3 too, not Goggles 2 or Integra. Firmware and features can change, so check DJI’s Avata 2 FAQ before your next group flight.
Don’t have extra goggles? DJI also lets you share the feed to one phone in the DJI Fly app, by Wi-Fi or cable.
One important note: a friend wearing goggles is not your visual observer. Your VO needs their own eyes on the drone, not on the screen. So keep at least one friend goggle-free and watching the sky.
The Easiest, Fastest Way to Learn FPV
Traditional FPV used to mean custom builds, soldering and a lot of crashes. The Avata 2 changes that. Here’s what makes it beginner friendly, based on DJI’s published specs:
- Built-in propeller guards so bumps are far less likely to end a flight.
- RC Motion 3, a one-hand motion controller where you point where you want to go.
- Easy ACRO, which lets you do flips, rolls and drifts with a single push.
- Turtle mode, which can flip the drone back over after a crash in many situations.
- 1/1.3-inch sensor that shoots up to 4K video, with a flight time DJI rates at roughly 23 minutes under ideal conditions.
As a result, most new pilots go from nervous to confident much faster than with a traditional FPV quad. For a guided start, our DJI Avata 2 Don’t Crash Course walks you through setup, flight modes and the move to manual.
Monetize It: Real Estate Fly-Through Tours

Here’s where fun turns into income. Realtors love smooth indoor fly-through videos that drift through the front door and room to room. They stop the scroll on Instagram and listing sites.
Because the Avata 2 is small and guarded, it’s well suited to tight hallways and doorways. In our Fly Through: Drone Tours course, Paul shows the full workflow: prepping the property, planning the flight line, flying the house, editing and delivering files realtors actually share.
In other words, the same drone you fly for fun can help you offer fly-through jobs, book clients and build a business.
Know the Rules Before You Fly
The Avata 2 weighs about 377 grams, so it is not a sub-250g drone. That means it needs FAA registration, and Remote ID rules apply.
If you get paid, you need a Part 107 certificate. Also, because goggles block your direct view, FAA rules call for a visual observer who keeps the drone in sight. Indoor flights can be treated differently, so confirm the rules for your situation. Our Part 107 course gets you certified.
Live the Drone Life
Ultimately, the Avata 2 does it all. It’s fun, it’s calming, it takes you on drone adventures, and it can pay for itself with fly-through tours. That’s living the drone life.
