We had reported earlier how various regulatory hurdles are preventing drone deliveries from taking flight. However, it is heartening to note that Google’s Wing Aviation has become the first drone delivery company to receive FAA approval. How did Wing Aviation manage to get FAA approval for drone deliveries? While frustrating, does FAA’s tentative approach bode well for the long-term good of the drone delivery industry?

Zipline has been making drone deliveries in Africa since 2014. They just announced that they would be making drone deliveries of medical supplies in Ghana. Indeed, the flexible regulatory framework in Africa has allowed Zipline to scale up their drone delivery operations quite impressively. Will Zipline become the second company after Google to make drone deliveries in the United States?
