The first story for today is about the American Security Drone Act of 2019. This act will prevent government agencies from utilizing federal funds to buy Chinese-manufactured drones. With many government agencies like fire departments and first responders primarily relying on DJI drones like Phantom and Mavic, this proposed ban could have a huge effect. Is this proposed ban harsh and uncalled for?

Next, we discuss how the delayed launch of Remote ID is preventing drone technology from truly taking off. Remote ID or Drone ID allows authorities to detect drones using systems like DJI Aeroscope. This will enhance drone safety, and eventually lead to wider adoption of drone technology. However, hindered by organizational constraints and resource limitations, the FAA is unlikely to implement this much-needed system anytime soon. In this segment of the show, we debate if we need a federal agency dedicated solely to the unmanned industry.
